Mint Green And Breton Stripes

The sun is out, the semester has officially finished, and in my books this means summer has finally started. Bright colours and prints fill my wardrobe at the moment and I think this outfit just has summer written all over it.  A long sleeved top and faux leather skirt may be a little too heavy to wear if unlike me, you are lucky enough to live in an ultra hot and sunny destination. However, for any of you looking for something to wear in a sunny but a slightly colder climate, I think this is ideal.

Hopefully summer twenty fourteen will bring lots of laughter, fun and adventure. I have a few things already planned, a couple of countries to visit and well missed friends to catch up with. I will also be working a summer job and hopefully will have time to get a lot more artwork done, so I'll definitely be keeping myself busy!

What are your summer plans? I would love to hear in the comments.

DIY: Tin Cans

I can't remember the last time I did a good old arts and crafts DIY post, so I thought today I would share my new favourite and easy-to-make home accessory.  I can't say I can take credit for this idea, in fact I discovered this do-it-yourself on Pinterest when researching my final first year "up-cycling" project. Looking at the final product I think you can agree that a step by step tutorial is a little unnecessary as all you need is a tin can, some masking tape to create a crisp line, and of course some colourful paint (I used acrylic). In my opinion, the fun part comes after the finish product is complete and thinking up all of the different ways you can use an up cycled tin can. I thought up a new use in different rooms of the house but really the possibilities are endless.

I would love to know if you try this DIY and have any other ideas how to use an up-cycled tin can.

Print-Spiration - DJCAD Degree Show

Gorgeous colourful fish prints by Rosa Howie. One of my favourite collections of the show
The beautiful nature inspired designs of Amy Malcolmson
Inspired by the urban environment these geometric prints were designed by Anna Petrie
The work of Rebecca McGill. Some of her beautiful print samples can also be seen in the final picture
These amazing interior pieces are the work of Judy Scott. I especially loved her many lampshade designs.
Each year art schools around the UK put on a degree show to display their graduates work. Last weekend I went to the degree show of my own art school and I loved the work so much I decided to visit it again yesterday to take some photos. As a textile student starting of next year, I was particularly inspired by their work and really wanted to share some of my favourites while there was still time to visit the show yourself.

The degree show will be running until Sunday the 25th May and is held throughout the entire art school with both fine art and design work form all the 2014 graduates. If you manage to visit I would love it if you left a comment telling me your favourite piece or department of work.

Radiating White

I am always instantly attracted to any crisp and clean white outfit, however being the pale person that I am, I'm continuously told that white just makes me look washed out and even more ghostly-looking than I already am. Although these facts may be true, I like to ignore all the rules and wear white anyway, and despite what some people may say, I think there is something quite attractive about an all white outfit against pale skin.

I accented this outfit with my burgundy floppy hat and red toned lip to put a bit more life and colour back into my face - probably my best piece of advice for any of you pale girls wanting to try out a similar look.
