Back in the Spring, I mentioned that I would be taking a trip to Australia for quite a long period of time. Well, I'm finally here! Five weeks into my trip and it's been one of the best adventures I have ever been on. I've swam in bright blue oceans, hiked up Kings Canyon during sunrise, camped out in The Outback, seen some of the coolest animals and met some pretty awesome people with amazing stories to share. I am sure it will be no surprise that I have taken hundreds of photos on my trip so far, but I hope the few I selected summarises some of the amazing things I have had the chance to do.
I started my trip in Perth, where I met up with a school friend who showed me around the city. I think my highlight of the week was my trip to Rottnest Island. I definitely recommend renting bikes as the best way to see the island, and get to some of the beautiful beaches along the coastline. Also, the island is home to Quokkas, some of the cutest animals I have ever seen (have a google for an 'aww' moment). After Perth, I travelled to Central Australia where I did a three day tour to see some of Australia's most amazing natural wonders, and camp under the most beautiful starry sky. I'm now staying in Melbourne for about a month, catching up with family and working in a textiles studio in the city, before heading off to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef this weekend.
Before the trip, I was a little apprehensive about going away for such a long period of time on my own, but once I got past the first coupled of weeks I realised how glad I was that I decided to travel this way. Travelling on my own has taught me so much about being self-sufficient and has forced me to get out and talk to new people I never would have thought to speak to before. I was also really surprised about how many other people are travelling on their own, and so if you are worried about being alone when you are travelling, don't, there are many others in the same boat as you!
I can't wait to continue my journey now traveling around the east coast, and of course I will keep your updated a long try way!
